Good day to you all and War Eagle!!!
This is the first of what will become a regular email address to the membership of your West Georgia Auburn Club. We have been posting updates on the club website (www.westgaauclub.com) but most members do not visit it on a regular basis. With that said, we are going to email you directly and do our best to keep you informed of upcoming events in our club. Below you will find a few events we have scheduled for the next few months.
Annual Club Picnic
This year’s picnic will be held at Blanton State Park on Lake Harding. Last year’s picnic was held at this same venue and we had such a great event that we decided to do it again at this great spot. This year the Picnic will be held on Sunday, August 1 with the time and events to be announced in the upcoming weeks. The theme for this year will be a tailgate kick off. We will be recognizing all the freshmen from our area who will be heading to the Plains this year. Also, we will introduce you to this year’s Charles D. Hudson Scholarship recipients. It is going to be a wonderful family event. More details to follow!
Viewing Parties
A couple of times a year we gather as a club to watch the Tigers play when they are on the road. We will announce an establishment to meet and we will gather as a club to cheer on the Tigers. This year, we will gather to watch the AU/Miss. State game on September 9 and the AU/Kentucky game on October 9. Mark your calendars and we will announce the venues in the weeks to come.
Annual Club Meeting
The annual meeting is the business meeting of our local club. It is at this meeting we recap the previous year and present a slate of officers for approval from the club membership. We will have a coach from the athletic department speak to us in addition to someone from the academia. Last year we had Coach Nell Fortner, the Lady Tigers Basketball Coach, speak to us about their championship season. At the same meeting we had Dr. Jesse Chappell, a professor at the Fisheries Department, who gave us some incredible facts about the things they are doing with regards to fish farming. In addition to our speakers there was an auction to raise money for our scholarship and Aubie was hamming it up with the locals. This year’s meeting is scheduled for September 14.
As you can see there are some exciting events coming up in the next few months and I hope you will all join us for fellowship and fun. The West Ga. Auburn Club is open to membership for all alumni and friends of Auburn University. If you didn’t graduate from Auburn you can still join our club. The only requirements you have to meet to be a member of this club are 1) a love for Auburn University and, 2) pay a small dues fee to help cover our expenses. Simple! Annual membership for singles is $30/year and a family membership is only $40/year. Our club year runs from June 1- May 31 so renewals for 2010-2011 are due at this time. Just mark “Dues” in the memo section and send your checks to:
