The initial action from 2007 executive committee was to establish our club’s scholarship. The LaGrange Daily News ran a story on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, to announce that West Georgia Auburn Club has established the "Charles D. Hudson Scholarship," honoring the local businessman and Auburn benefactor for his lifetime of generous support for Auburn University.
Our first goal was to make this scholarship a permanent endowment, from which annual scholarship presentations will be made to one or more deserving area students headed to the Plains. This goal was given a major shot in the arm when the Callaway Foundation generously agreed to provide matching funds -up to $100,000 per year for five years -for contributions received by the club for the Charles D. Hudson scholarship. So, to make a real difference in being able to help send deserving students to Auburn, your contributions will be "effectively doubled" through 2011.
If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to the new scholarship in honor of Mr. Hudson, please send a separate check, payable to "Auburn University Foundation," and note in the memo section of the check "Charles D. Hudson Scholarship." The Auburn University Foundation is a 501c 3 and it will administer all scholarship funds on behalf of West Georgia Auburn Club. Scholarship Guidelines
1. The number and amount of the scholarships to be awarded shall be determined by the Office of University Scholarships and shall be limited to the funds available in the spendable account and consistent with the scholarship award guidelines. Each recipient shall be selected by the Office of University Scholarships, contingent upon review and approval of the student's eligibility. The amount of each scholarship shall be disbursed at regular intervals during the school year in accordance with normal university policies.
2. To be eligible for consideration for this scholarship a student
must:
1) be a resident of Troup, Harris or Meriwether County, GA
2) be a graduate of a public or independent high school program;
3) have a 26-29 ACT or 1130-1310 SAT score;
4) have a 3.0 to a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale; and
5) demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of
Financial Aid.
3. Preference will be given to students who have a parent or guardian who is an alumnus of Auburn and a current member of the Auburn Alumni Association. If a student within the test score and/or GPA ranges cannot be identified, a student with a higher test score and/or GPA may be considered. If a student with financial need cannot be identified, the financial need criterion may be waived.
4. The student should be willing to provide 20 hours per year of community service back to the West Georgia Auburn Club, specifics to be determined in conjunction with the Club President and/or Executive Committee.
5. Each scholarship is for one academic year. Prior recipients are not disqualified from consideration for this scholarship during subsequent years.
6. If a student holds this scholarship as a senior and is enrolled in a degree-seeking professional program, which may include the Masters Degree, the student will qualify for consideration and may continue to retain the scholarship until such time as he/she graduates with the Masters Degree or no longer meets the scholarship requirements as stated.
